Collection Event Options
Ambassadors can help their communities in many ways.
Dress It Up provides everything you need to host a successful Collection Event.
Formal Wear Collection Event
Donors earn Service Hours for this type of event.
Ambassadors coordinate with their school or organization to collect men's and/or women's formalwear.
This type of event is staffed by an Ambassador and volunteers to collect, hang, store, and hand-deliver suits, sportscoats, homecoming, and/or prom dresses.
Community Collection Event
No Service Hours are provided to Donors for this type of event.
Use the power of Social Media to advertise your efforts to collect gently used items within your community.
Join your local community FaceBook pages, post on your neighborhood bulletin, or advertise in your school newsletter to let your community know you are collecting items for your local foster boutique, children's home, or community closet.
You'll coordinate pick-up or drop off locations with donors.
Once the items are collected, host a Sorting Event to earn Service Hours with a team of volunteers
Clothing and Shoe Drive
No Service Hours are provided to Donors for this type of event.
Partner with your school, church, dance studio, cheer gym, sports club, or any organization to host a clothing drive.
Dress It Up will provide bins for drop and go donations.
Advertise the day and time with your organization. Be sure donors know Dress It Up collects only gently-used items. Dress It Up does not collect over-worn, stained, pilling, or damaged items.
Once the items are collected, host a Sorting Event to earn Service Hours with a team of volunteers
Earning Service Hours
Dress It Up is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization
Formal Wear Collection Event
Donors earn one service hour per item* for the collection, inspection, cleaning, and repair of Formal Wear brought to a Collection Event.
The hour is earned by the upfront work (collecting, cleaning, inspection, and repair) A service hour is not issued for simply donating a garment.
Steps required to earn one service hour per garment:
1. Collect formal wear from your personal closet, family, friends, and neighbors.
2. Inspect garments for tears, rips, or stains. Dress It Up cannot accept damaged items.
3. Dry clean or spot clean garments.
4. Repair loose sequins, straps, zippers, and buttons prior to bring the garment to a Collection Event
5. Bring your garment(s) to a Formal Wear Collection Event.
*One Service Hour is provided for high-end garments with original retail value at $100+. Examples of garments that earn One Service Hour are: suits, prom dresses, homecoming dresses, formal wear.
Ambassador Hours
Ambassadors earn Service Hours for all types of Collection Events. Earn hours for actual time spent on:
- Planning
- Advertising
- Coordinating with your school/organization
- Actual time worked at the Collection Event
- Delivery of items to Receiving Organization.
Generally, one event earns 3-8 hours.
